About
I am a clinical psychologist with 30 years of experience working with individuals and couples navigating depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship challenges. I also work with those seeking self-understanding and a stronger sense of meaning and purpose.
My clinical background includes intensive outpatient, residential, and psychiatric hospital settings with children, adolescents, and adults. I have been in private practice in La Jolla since 2006.
Approach
My approach is insight-oriented and draws primarily from psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. Depending on the needs and goals of the individual, I also draw from family systems therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, existential therapy, and other depth-oriented approaches.
Therapy offers the opportunity to better understand patterns, behaviors, and emotions, while also developing practical tools for navigating life more effectively. Clients often benefit from a deeper connection to their inner world and greater clarity and confidence in the external world.
What Therapy Is Like
Sessions are focused and intentional, balancing emotional understanding with practical insight. We address patterns that contribute to anxiety, overwhelm, or feeling stuck. This process supports deeper awareness, meaningful change, and a stronger sense of alignment throughout your life.
Existential & Depth-Oriented Work
For some individuals, therapy extends beyond symptom relief to deeper questions related to identity, meaning, and how to navigate life during periods of change. At times, our work may include exploring themes such as purpose, loss, and the impact of major life transitions.
Credentials
I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego, an APA-accredited program, in 2001. I have been licensed as a clinical psychologist in California since 2003 (PSY 19212).
My background includes clinical work across outpatient, residential, and hospital-based psychiatric settings, as well as research and publication in peer-reviewed psychology journals. I am also a member of the American Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, and the San Diego Psychological Association.
